East Fishkill sits on the southern edge of Dutchess and was split off from Fishkill in 1849. Interstate 84, the Taconic State Parkway and the Appalachian Trail all cross the town, and the Hudson Valley Research Park occupies the former IBM East Fishkill site.

The town is made up of hamlets: Hopewell Junction, Fishkill Plains, Stormville, Wiccopee, Hillside Lake, Gayhead, Hortontown, Lomala, Pecksville, Shenandoah and Leetown, on top of Stormville Mountain.
Fishkill Farms is an orchard of more than 100 years with a farm store, an outdoor grill and Treasury Cider made on site. Sloop Brewing Co. is also in town.
The William R. Steinhaus Dutchess Rail Trail starts at the Hopewell Depot, with more trailheads at Lake Walton Road and Van Wyck Lane. The Appalachian Trail crosses the east side of town.
The closest passenger rail is Beacon station on Metro-North's Hudson Line, where weekday morning trains reach Grand Central in 73 to 92 minutes on the October 2026 timetable. I-84 and the Taconic State Parkway both run through the town.
